April Fools is a day full of pranks and jokes, a time when harmless tricks are loved and almost expected, but most people don’t know how this holiday got its start.  April Fools first started in the 1700’s when society was just accepting the New Year’s calendar. April 1st was when the calendar went into effect. No one actually believed that they were adopting a new calendar, so they used the day for jokes and pranks – the tradition has stayed.

There are so many to celebrate April 1st, from a small prank to a large joke. Kierre Booker, 9th grade says, “One year I thought it would be funny to fill my mom’s room with balloons. She got home and flipped out. It took me forever to finish, but it was awesome”. Or Parker Winge, 9th grade says, who revealed “There was one time where my mom was on vacation and I called her panicked and told her I broke a window in the house. Let’s just say I was grounded for a month”.

As April approaches, so does the opportunity for a good prank. A few pranksters didn’t want me to spoil their pranks but revealed what they have in store for this year: “I have such a good prank planned for this year; my girlfriend is going on vacation soon and I’m going to call her April 1st and tell her I don’t think it’s going to work out anymore. I’m not sure how it’s going to work out I’m kinda scared. But it’s getting back at her for her fake break up last year!” says anonymous, 12th grade. Anonymous, 11th grade, says “I think I’m going to buy my dad a fake lottery ticket that says he won. He always get so upset about the lottery so I don’t know how he’s going to react”.

Let me know down in the comments below how your April fools prank go!

I’ve never had a successful April Fools joke. Except telling people their shoe is untied.
