Saying goodbye isn’t always fun, however it means looking forward to what’s to come. As the cross country season comes to an end, freshman Kamyrn Hodge echoed this sentiment when she said, “I’m kinda sad, but I’m looking forward to next year. Although we had lost of hard practices, it’s fun getting to know everyone and travelling to different places.”

The cross country season started at the beginning of the school year and ended in early November. This year, the cross country team made it to state, which took place in Carrolton, Georgia nearly three hours away.

When asked about cross country traditions, Coach Smallwood replied, “We have always traveled over to view the course before the state meet the day before our race.  This year we missed out on that because our bus had a flat tire on the way and it was dark before we could get there,”

Although the team didn’t win state, they still managed to have a fun time. This was the last year for many seniors after being part of cross country throughout their high school experience.

“Senior leaders had major impact on what the team became this year and what it will be in the future,” says Coach Smallwood about her departing members. “Our seniors played a big part in this accomplishment.”

With the season finishing, it marks the end of an era and room for a new one. Leave a comment below if you have a fond memory of participating in cross country or just to congratulate this team on a great season.
