Guns were created long ago for the purpose of defense. Today however, guns are sometimes more feared than they are appreciated. It is no secret that gun control is a controversial topic in the media today, and with the recent school shootings, schools are one of the main areas of concern.

There are many laws in place to protect schools and school districts from gun violence. One example is The Gun Free School Zones Act. This act prohibits guns on school campus’s. ” I feel safe with the laws in place and do not think that changing them will help any with the issues,” says, freshman Celeste Brawner.

Recently there has been debate as to weather gun free is the best way to protect against violence, and some believe that gun laws should be revised to allow teachers or other hired personnel to carry firearms on campus. ” I feel secure with officer Garrett, however what about the middle school or the elementary school? I understand school should feel safe, but really I don’t know if some places are” says freshman Shawna Gittens.

Controversy is an inevitable thing, especially when dealing with such a broad topic. Feel free to give your opinion below.

i would have liked to know more on the topic, but with what i know i would rather it be that they are allowed by teachers and other adults on campus. i would feel more safe with everything that has gone on with shootings and stuff.

great article keep up the good work. it’s quite interesting, I had no idea that there was a debate about teachers having guns going on. I feel safe with officer Garrett and think it’s good we have him here at GHS.
