"Puppies are the most trusting and joyous creatures on the planet. Oh, to be more like a puppy." -Colleen Paige

2National Puppy Day is celebrated on Wednesday March 23 , 2016. It’s a special day that brings love to everyone. Although it is also a day to help save orphaned puppies across the globe and educate the world about the horrors of puppy mills. Cassidy Townsend says, ” I love my dog , Gracie. She is a pit bull and is the sweetest thing ever. She is just like family.”  The person who created this day was Colleen Paige. Colleen Paige is not only the founder of National Puppy Day but she also is a Celebrity Pet and Home Lifestyle Expert.

One goal of this day is to raise awareness about the horrors of puppy mills. Puppy mills are considered to be an establishment that breeds puppies in mass and usually in inhumane and unsanitary conditions without regard for the welfare of the mother of puppies. Elle Day states,” The thought of people selling and possibly beating on innocent puppies is cruel to even think of; it’s sickening.”

Many students that attend Greenbrier High School have at least one four legged pal running around their home and most regard them as family members.  Because irresponsible breeders and puppy mills are out there, it is important to do research on both the breed and breeder before purchasing a puppy. Also remember that looking in your local animal shelter for your furry friend is a great way to find a loyal pet and save a life!
