Greenbrier High School has many CTAE pathway courses for a variety of career interests. One pathway is the new class, Criminal Justice and Law, which focuses on different safety fields, including the role of first responders, traffic stop police, and accident investigations. The class has a new teacher, Mr. Wuchte; his twenty year experience in law enforcement and six years of teaching will come together to create an extraordinary experience and class for all students.

Students like Alexander Williams and Grace Rodgers share their opinions on the class. Alexander called it, “laid back.” Other laid back classes aren’t as exciting as this one though.  “On Fridays, we do a mock trail. We have people be lawyers and judges” says Grace Rodgers. “It’s a little slow, and there’s a lot of work, but it’s fun.” Other than slow work and exciting mock trials, this class will experience non-lethal, authentic, real police gear. The class will also experience practice in rescuing, being shown CPR, examining CERT or Community Emergency Response Team, and have visits from employed and retired police from different levels of public safety.

This new, promising class can help students learn new things about justice, different safety fields, and laws in an exciting way. Mr. Wuchte comments “I hope that students remember after the class that arresting people is a very small part of what public safety employees do, and above all it is a profession that involves service to your community.”
