There comes a time every four years when the Olympic games take the spotlight. This year, the games took place in Rio, Brazil and just like in years past, the Olympics have inspired a new generation of atheletes to reach for the stars and work towards the gold. Although Olympic athletes inspire individuals of all ages, the Olympic games inspire high school athletes to take their sports career more seriously, making the games that much more important to them on a personal level. Greenbrier soccer player, Emily Blumling, shared her opinion on the games: “It really upset me when the USA’s Women’s Soccer Team lost to Sweden,” she said, “however, their work inspires me to work hard and to strive for the best.”

Even students who don’t personally compete in sports are able to draw inspiration from these iconic games. Greenbrier student, Kira Ladson shared her thoughts: “The Olympics aren’t all about sports; they’re also a way for countries to come together,” Ladson said. “I think it’s a great way to bring people together.”

What is your favorite part of the games? Leave a comment below to let us know how your favorite event or athlete inspires you.
