On August 11th through 14th more than twenty inches of rain fell in Louisiana. 60,000 houses were damaged and hundreds were left homeless. At least thirteen people died with many left injured. Louisiana still has 2 feet of standing water. 7,000 people are in shelters, thousands are left without power. 6.9 trillion gallons of rain fell in one week. One high schooler and current resident of Leesville, Louisiana Michael Ciacelli, expressed concern, “The flood is affecting the area down here because a lot of people are going down South to help and the schools are asking us to donate a lot.” The disaster has caused a lot of pain for current residents and their families. The Red Cross stated, “It is likely the worst natural disaster since superstorm Sandy in 2012.”  Greenbrier’s SGA club is hosting a donation for the Louisiana flooding victims to “assist those in need in Louisiana who have been affected by the flooding in that area in any possible.” explains Mr. Jones, Head of the SGA club. Natural disasters can happen anywhere, even in Evans, Georgia. Here’s how you can help:

Update: The SGA drive was a success! Mr. Jones would like to give a big shout out to Jenny Lowery for the idea, Susan OBrien for helping with transportation, and for the amazing Senior SGA group!
