Leadership skills are especially important for Greenbrier seniors. Recently, the varsity/competition cheerleaders voted on whom they wanted as their senior captains, and the title went to two amazing girls on and off the cheer mat, Grayson Bruce and Alexis Smock.

Even though these girls aren’t very outspoken, the cheerleaders recognized their hidden traits that made them stand out from other senior cheerleaders. “I’m a very quiet cheerleader,” says Alexis, “I try to be observant and listen before I speak.” Alexis thinks that people like a leader who listens closely before trying to help, and she is right, according to sophomore cheerleader Awtome Finney. The trait that shines most to Awtome and other cheerleaders on the team is “their determination to help the team become better.”

Not only do their incredible determination make them fantastic captains, they’re also super nice down to earth, according to the cheerleaders. “I think the girls voted for me because I get along well with others on the team, and I have a sense of fairness,” said Grayson. Most importantly, both Alexis and Grayson mentioned they have cheered for a while, so they know the game of football well.

As the varsity football/competition team continues on their road to regions, the cheer captains have major goals. “My goal for us as a team is to win regions” said both Alexis and Grayson. “But I also want to create a close, unified team” added Alexis.

The cheer team is more than thrilled to call these two girls their leaders. As sophomore cheerleader Julia Florentino said, “I think they do what’s best for the team, and they are great leaders!”

Feel free to leave a comment to congratulate Grayson Bruce and Alexis Smock on being the 2016-2017 varsity football and competition cheerleading captains!
